WATKINS AND HALE ACTIVE IN INAUGURAL PRAYER SERVICE

With President and First Lady Obama, Vice-President and Dr. Biden, and former-President Clinton and Mrs. Clinton (later confirmed as Secretary of State) sitting on the first row (and Senator John McCain sitting a couple of rows back), the Rev. Dr. Sharon E. Watkins, General Minister and President of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) delivered a sermon on community and ethical choices to a Washington National Cathedral full of religious leaders, government officials and other guests.

As part of her sermon, GMP Watkins called on President Obama and other government officials to "hold your ground on your deepest values, on our deepest values," and when confronting the many challenges that face us, "to stay focused on our shared hopes, so that we can continue to hope, too."

Also participating in this national interfaith service was Dr. Cynthia Hale, Senior Pastor of Ray of Hope Christian Church in Dacatur, GA. She set the tone for the worship service and for the moral core of the Obama Administration with her reading from Isaiah 58: 6 - 12.
