Medicaid Coalition Update

New Report--A Tale of Two States: Missouri, Iowa and Medicaid Expansion

Yesterday, Families USA released an issue brief that illustrates through personal stories the inequity in access to health care when states don’t expand Medicaid.

The brief compares a consumer in Missouri, which has not expanded, and Iowa, which has.  The two individuals featured in the issue brief, Deb and Echo, live in neighboring states – but lead drastically different lives because Iowa has extended Medicaid and Missouri has not.

A companion blog tells the story of Anthony, who lives in neighboring Kentucky, which has expanded Medicaid.

Please share the issue brief and blog with your networks and memberships, especially with folks in Missouri.

Number of States (plus DC) Expanding Medicaid Reaches 30!

Yesterday, Montana became the 29th state (plus the District of Columbia) to expand its Medicaid program. Montana's decision means that up to 70,000 Montanans will now have access to affordable health care through Medicaid.  Check out Families USA's updated 50-state infographic that reviews which states that have expanded and which ones still need to do so.  As we've mentioned in meetings and previous updates, many states, including Montana, are expanding their programs through an 1115 demonstration waiver.  Check out our short analysis to find out what states are expanding with a waiver, as well as details on the elements included in those expansion waivers.
