Blessing of the Animals

On Thursday, October 22 from 1:00-2:00pm, Creation Justice Ministries and the National Religious Partnership for the Environment will co-host an inter-religious Blessing of the Animals ceremony at the United Methodist Building on Capitol Hill.

The Blessing will be an opportunity for members of Congress and their staff to reflect on the intrinsic worth of God's creatures, including and especially endangered species. Many Christians set aside time close to the Feast of St. Francis to pray for God's creatures. This October, we are giving Congress an opportunity to pray for animals, in hopes that their convictions will be strong to protect public policies that bless animals, too.

We expect an endangered bat, a police horse, and other exotic animals to be in attendance, along with pets that belong to members of Congress and their staff members. The Blessing will be an excellent time to take pictures and video. We will invite everyone to post to social media at #BlesstheAnimals.
