POOR PEOPLE'S CAMPAIGN: A MESSAGE TO DISCIPLES COMING TO DC

Dearest Disciples,

Thank you for choosing to join us for the Poor People’s Campaign event “Rally to Fight Poverty, Not the Poor.” As a reminder, it is scheduled for Saturday, June 23rd at 10am, located on the National Mall at the cross streets of Jefferson Dr. SW and 7th St. SW.

Many of us are gathering before the event at 8:30am at National City Christian Church (14th St. entrance), where there will be snacks and water. We will also hear from our GMP and pray together. We will then depart from the church and make our way to the rally together. If you would like to join us for this pre-gathering, please register using this link: https://goo.gl/forms/ hAF7A2WsQb6bbmJA3

Some people are bringing signs. If you choose to attend the pre-gathering, and did not bring your own sign, don’t worry: we have some signs for you that are in Spanish and English and printed at a union shop (Communication Workers of America, like DJAN, is an official sponsor of PPC:NCMR). Some signs are blank on the back, so you can write or draw your own sign. We'll also bring some of the signs to the event for people who will not attend the pre-gathering. (These signs will allow us to affirm our shared Disciples identity and also, in the spirit of Dr King, affirm worker justice as an essential part of the Poor People's Campaign).

For those of you who will not be able to join Disciples for the pre-gathering, our planned route is to walk from National City Christian Church down 14th Ave. to Pennsylvania Ave. to 9th St. and then 9th St. to the corner of Madison Dr.

We look forward to seeing you!
